DIFFERENT BETWEEN TOYOTA MOTOR OIL SN AND SP

Toyota Motor Oil SN and SP are both high-quality engine oils that meet or exceed the requirements of the American Petroleum Institute (API). However, there are some key differences between the two.

API SN

API SN is the older of the two specifications, and was introduced in 2010. It is designed for use in gasoline engines, and provides improved performance across a wide range of areas, including:

  • High temperature deposit protection for pistons

  • Improved protection against the formation of engine sludge

  • Reduced oil consumption

  • Improved fuel efficiency

  • Extended oil drain intervals

API SP

API SP is the newer of the two specifications, and was introduced in 2017. It is designed for use in gasoline engines, including those with turbochargers and direct injection. API SP oils meet all of the requirements of API SN, plus they provide additional benefits such as:

  • Improved protection against low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI)

  • Improved timing chain wear protection

  • Improved fuel efficiency at low temperatures

Which oil should I use?

The best way to determine which oil to use in your vehicle is to consult your owner’s manual. Your owner’s manual will specify the recommended API service category and SAE viscosity grade for your engine.
If your owner’s manual recommends API SN oil, you can use either API SN or API SP oil. However, if your owner’s manual recommends API SP oil, you should use API SP oil. API SP oil is backward compatible with API SN engines, so it is safe to use in older vehicles.

Additional considerations

In addition to the API service category and SAE viscosity grade, there are a few other factors to consider when choosing an engine oil:

  • Oil type: There are three main types of engine oil: mineral oil, synthetic oil, and semi-synthetic oil. Mineral oil is the least expensive type of oil, but it does not offer the same level of protection as synthetic oil. Synthetic oil is the most expensive type of oil, but it offers the best protection and performance. Semi-synthetic oil is a compromise between mineral oil and synthetic oil.

  • Oil brand: There are many different brands of engine oil available. It is important to choose a brand that has a good reputation and that produces high-quality oil.

  • Oil price: Engine oil can range in price from a few Rs 10,900.00 to Rs 13,250. It is important to find an oil that fits your budget and that meets your needs.
